FUQUA HAS FOND MEMORIES OF 1987 CHAMPIONSHIP

Editor’s Note: Thirty years have already passed since Cuero High School’s last state championship in football in 1987. In honor of that historic season, The Cuero Record will have stories throughout this season with players and coaches from 1987.

John Fuqua was an assistant coach for the Gobblers in 1987. He was also on the staff when they reached the finals in the two years prior and later on in 1993, 1998 and 2004.

CUERO LADY GOBBLERS LOOK TO REPLACE SIZE, EXPERIENCE

Martina Stavinoha and Shania Hatter have graduated and are no longer with the Lady Gobbler basketball program, but after winning district a year ago, expectations are still high. Head coach Amy Crain returns four varsity players but will have to find a way to replace a lot of size in the post and scoring.

The Cuero Record

Seasons end in defeat for all but one team in each volleyball division. Cuero was one of those teams, but with a steady influx of young players who saw tremendous varsity action, the future of the program looks bright.

The Lady Gobblers ended the season ended the season with eight wins and 22 losses and a bi-district defeat against Devine (11-25, 19-25, 16-25), but their lone senior still cherishes her time with the team.
