Arndt to focus on winning QB job after Tuesday's All-Star Game
Thursday, 15 July 2010

From The Victoria Advocate:

SAN ANTONIO - Tyler Arndt is playing 7-on-7 this summer just like he has the last few summers.

But Arndt's teammates aren't from Cuero and the opposing players aren't from Yoakum, Edna or Gonzales.

Arndt is throwing passes to his future teammates at Texas State and against defenders from Texas Lutheran and Incarnate Word.

Arndt hopes the trips he's making to San Marcos on Mondays and Tuesdays will pay off when he begins his first season at Texas State next month.

"I'm going to be a lot more comfortable come fall already getting to know the guys this summer," Arndt said after playing quarterback for the South in a 36-23 win in the Texas High School Coaches Association's All-Star Football Game on Tuesday night at the Alamodome. "I'll be a lot more familiar with things."

From The Cuero Record:

Tyler Arndt has nothing to prove in Tuesday’s Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star Game in San Antonio. The former Cuero Gobbler quarterback’s real challenge will begin Aug. 6.

Arndt should play about half the game Saturday, sharing time with Gilmer’s Stump Godfrey. Having not put on pads since Cuero’s playoff run ended in November, Arndt is excited to get back on the football field.

Gobblers finish unbeaten in 7-on-7
Thursday, 24 June 2010

From The Cuero Record:

Rick Owens liked what he saw this month from the Cuero Gobblers’ 7-on-7 football team.

The Gobblers ended their 7-on-7 schedule last Thursday in Yoakum with a 34-12 win over Victoria East and a 26-6 victory over Gonzales to finish with an 8-0 record. On June 15 in Victoria, Cuero defeated Yoakum 42-28 and Victoria West 14-3.

At sports events, the Cuero Gobblers scream green. It's everywhere, said Rick Owens, Cuero athletic director.

"You can always recognize our kelly green because there's a whole bunch of them," said Owens, first-year athletic director in Cuero. "It kind of stands out."

The Gobblers were voted as best athletics program in the Crossroads.

"It's a neat honor for our town, our community and our school," Owens said. "

Gobblers handed new district rivals by UIL, tough pre-district schedule set

From The Cuero Record:

by Richard Morton, Record Sports
 (Posted Wed 09:24 am)
With football Spring practices just around the corner, the Gobblers schedule has a few changes from last year. University Interscholastic League realignment on Monday has once again had an impact on the Gobblers as well as the rest of district 28-3A.
Being a perrennial powerhouse is not always easy. The Gobblers compiled an astounding 84-11 with Coach Mark Reeve at the helm, making it tough to schedule games early in season. This year under first year Head Coach Rick Owens is no different, as is indicated in the Gobblers non-district schedule which looks more like a rough playoff run then a pre-district warmup.
